An estimated 51.1% of workers in Calvià use public transport to get to work, while the remaining 48.9% use other modes of transportation, primarily private vehicles. Furthermore, public transport use is particularly frequent: 86.3% of those who use it do so daily.
These findings come from a report based on 376 valid surveys conducted at 24 hotels in the municipality of Ponent.
The Regional Government, in collaboration with the Calvià Council, is promoting a study on work-related mobility as part of the Pact for Sustainability and has presented the results of an initial analysis that provides insight into employees’ commuting habits and identifies areas for improvement in public transportation to one of the main tourist areas.
Overall, the study shows that 43.6% of all surveyed hotel workers commute daily by public transportation, a figure that highlights the strategic importance of the bus network for the functioning of the tourism sector and for workforce mobility in the municipality.
The regional government’s intention, channeled through the departments responsible for Mobility and Labor, is for this data to serve as a basis for advancing new measures to improve the mobility of service sector workers across all the islands.
