Palma’s Local Police have fined the driver of a hire car after the vehicle was found parked illegally in the middle of the city’s paseo marítimo, directly in front of Palma’s historic walls.
According to authorities, the driver entered an area reserved exclusively for pedestrians, breaching local traffic regulations designed to protect both public safety and the city’s heritage sites.
Officers discovered the vehicle obstructing the restricted zone and quickly arranged for a municipal tow truck to remove it from the promenade. Police said the intervention was necessary to restore normal pedestrian access in one of Palma’s busiest waterfront areas.
In a message shared on social media, the Local Police criticised the behaviour, warning that driving through pedestrian-only areas not only damages the environment and the image of the historic centre, but also places pedestrians at risk.
The incident highlights ongoing efforts by authorities in Mallorca to protect cultural landmarks and public spaces as visitor numbers continue to rise across the island during the busy tourist season.
