National Police officers in Palma have arrested a man on suspicion of committing a violent robbery against a young tourist who was walking through a recreational area in the popular holiday resort of the Playa de Palma.
Around 3:00 a.m. on Saturday, police officers from were conducting security and crime prevention duties on a busy street in the Playa de Palma when they observed a young man wandering among tourists with the clear intention of robbing them.
The officers began following the man on foot, observing as he approached pedestrians and attempted to rob them. At one point during the pursuit, the officers saw the man lunge at a young woman; at that moment, the suspect tried to reach into one of the woman’s trouser pockets while snapping at her, “Where do you keep your things?”
Realizing that the suspect had tried to steal her mobile phone and the money she was carrying, the young woman pushed the man in an attempt to break free from him; After this, the suspect fell to the ground and grabbed a glass bottle, smashing it against the pavement. He then picked up shards of glass from the ground and caused several cuts and wounds to the young woman’s hand, from which blood was flowing profusely
Finally, the officers assisted the injured young woman while simultaneously arresting the man as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of robbery with violence and bodily injury. The woman later said that it was a nightmare experience.
