The Foreign Tourist Assistance Service (SATE), jointly operated by Calvia Town Hall and the Guardia Civil, is now in operation, the service having been extended from its previous June to September period. It will this year be available until October.

There are two SATE centres at Guardia Civil facilities in Magaluf and Peguera. These are by the tourist information offices that the town hall operates.

The service is available in four languages - English, French, German and Italian - and is designed to offer personalised assistance to tourists in need. Document translation is part of the service, as any official reports have to be in Spanish.

The mayor of Calvia, Juan Antonio Amengual, emphasises "the importance of the service in reinforcing the image of a safe destination and in raising awareness about a responsible and sustainable tourism model".

The extension of the programme to the months of May and October is said to highlights the success of town hall strategy in combating seasonality. Up to 10,000 tourists have received assistance in previous years.
