Two men have been arrested in Manacor following allegations of sexual assault against a foreign tourist holidaying alone in the Balearics. The National Police is currently probing whether the victim was subjected to chemical submission to override her consent during the incident that allegedly occurred behind a car in a remote area.

The events unfolded on the night of May 1st when the woman entered a bar and took a seat on the terrace. Shortly after, one of the men approached her table and they began talking. Another man, a friend of the first, joined them and they shared some drinks. At one point, the woman left to go to the restroom, leaving her drink unattended.

According to the victim’s statement in her official complaint, she started experiencing symptoms inconsistent with normal alcohol consumption. Additionally, the two men urged her to finish her drink before leaving the venue. The woman intended to call a taxi back to her hotel, but the suspects offered to accompany her, saying their car was nearby. From that moment, the victim only recalled 'flashes' of the car journey and stopping in a dark, isolated field with no buildings around. It is alleged that both men took advantage of this situation to sexually assault her in the back of the vehicle.

At one point, the woman managed to escape from the car and ran across a road, seeking help at the first house she found. Alarmed by her condition, the householders immediately contacted the police.

Officers arrived promptly and escorted the victim to a hospital, where the relevant protocols were activated. The woman formally filed a report at the UFAM (Units for Attention to Women and Children). The investigation was undertaken by local police with support from the Brigada Local de Seguridad Ciudadana.

Utilising all information provided by the victim, authorities conducted various inquiries that led to the identification of the two suspects. They were quickly located and arrested as the alleged perpetrators. The vehicle involved was seized to carry out a detailed forensic inspection.

The swift police action enabled their detention in a remarkably short time frame. Notably, one suspect was found with a box of medication resembling a tranquilliser at the time of arrest, prompting further examination into the possible administration of substances to incapacitate the victim.

Following the investigation, both men were brought before the judicial authorities on Monday and remanded in custody pending trial.
