In 2001, Scotsman Richard Nightingale Goss moved to Porreres. He had taken early retirement following a stroke. Once in Porreres, he developed very close ties with the local people and their culture. Always armed with a camera to document traditions and customs, he himself became a part of these.

He joined the Porreres batucada drummers and the Porreres giants. He sang with the Gregorian School. He also became a volunteer with the Porreres Civil Protection service. It was said of him that he did more for Porreres than many of the 'Porrerencs'.

Richard died in 2023, leaving behind a great legacy of contributions. There is now one very clear example - his car.

Administrative issues had delayed this, but his family has donated his car for public service use. The town hall has in turn given it to the local police, who are already using the car for patrols. Books from his library were also donated to the municipality.

A Porreres Town Hall statement reads: "He was fully integrated into the life of the town, standing out for his passion for music, culture, and traditions, as well as his involvement in the parish. From the town hall, we express our sorrow and gratitude. May he rest in peace."
