The Mayor of Palma, Jaime Martinez, has urged his British counterparts, including Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham to invest in the city. During a meeting in Madrid on Tuesday night, Martinez urged them to bring their business communities together and look at possible investments in Mallorca.
"British tourism spending has remained high but what we have noticed is that since Brexit, British investment has dropped off. We want to change this," he told Bulletin Online this morning.
Attending the Forum Bloomberg CityLab, apart from the Mayors of Palma and Manchester were officials from Liverpool, South Yorkshire and Belfast along with the British ambassador to Spain, Sir Alex Ellis.
The Mayor of Palma underlined the success of the event and said that it was the first steps in what could lead to a close working partnership.
Britain continues to be one of the big investors in Spin with leading British companies all having a sizeable presence in Spain.
