The National Police in Ciutadella, Menorca, have arrested three people, including a father and son, for beating a man, shooting him in the face with a pellet gun, and threatening him with dangerous dogs. According to a press release, the incident took place in the early hours of Monday morning, when several patrols from the Ciutadella National Police’s Citizen Assistance Unit were called to the scene after an assault was reported outside an entertainment venue.

Officers found a young man inside a vehicle with a bloodied face, numerous open wounds on his face and one ear, and several pellets embedded in his face. After being treated by paramedics, the young man told the police that he had been attacked by a group of men, identifying two of them as a father and son.

The victim stated that an argument had broken out inside the venue with the younger assailant after he had accused him of stealing some form of medication. They continued the argument in the street and the younger assailant pulled out a pellet gun, aimed it at the victim’s face and fired up to five times.

Subsequently, the assailant’s father arrived at the scene and, together with another man, continued to assault him. The young man who was attacked claimed that the father struck him violently on the head with a bar or metal object, whilst his companion kicked and punched him. The victim reported that the alleged perpetrators were accompanied by two dangerous-breed dogs that tried to bite him.

Meanwhile, another patrol was informed that the alleged perpetrators were in the vicinity, enabling them to be intercepted. Although they denied involvement in the attack, both were arrested as suspects in an attempted murder case. Officers confirmed that the son had a valid restraining order against his father, so he was also arrested for breaching it. After being informed of the reasons for his arrest, the son hurled insults and threats at the officers.

During the journey to the police station, the young assailant caused damage to the police vehicle and, whilst being taken into custody, attacked one of the officers, dislocating his shoulder. The investigation remained open until the involvement of the third man could be confirmed; he was located by officers from the National Police’s Judicial Police and arrested as a suspect in a case of bodily harm.
