A Palma court has ordered the expulsion from Spain of a Colombian man who attacked his ex-partner with a carpenter's chisel.

Although the couple had separated, they had continued to live in the same apartment in Palma's Joan Miró area. The attack occurred on August 4 last year at around 2pm. She was taking a nap on a sofa, when he attacked her with the chisel, hitting her on the shoulder, the back and the thigh.

Her screams alerted her sister, who also lived in the apartment. He attacked her as well, shouting "I'm going to kill you too, you'll see what's going to happen to you".

The National Police arrested him, and he was remanded in custody, charged with aggravated assault, threats, and gender violence.

The Prosecutor's Office initially requested an eight-year sentence. This was substituted by the expulsion order. He cannot return to Spain for ten years. He was also ordered to pay €800 compensation to the two victims - €500 to his ex-partner and €300 to the woman's sister for the injuries they suffered during the attack.
