The fuel crisis gets even more severe in Mallorca

Service station staff to go on strike

Possible industrial action.

Service station staff in Spain have voted for strike action despite the world-wide fuel crisis as a result of the war with Iran. The move could mean that motorists and road hauliers, who are already paying more for their fuel, could also find that their regular petrol stations are closed.

The strikes have been called for April 30 and May 3 throughout Spain to break the deadlock in collective bargaining negotiations.

In a statement, the unions justify the call for these two days of strikes—which coincide with the start and end of the upcoming May 1 long weekend—citing “the employers’ unacceptable attitude at the negotiating table.” The stoppages will take place on April 30 between 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., while the strike on May 3 is scheduled to last 24 hours.

Since the outbreak of full-scale conflict in February 2026, the price of petrol in Spain has risen by approximately 6.1%, reaching an average of €1.56 per liter by the end of March.

Unions said that they hoped to reach an agreement with management before the strikes go ahead at the end of this month.
