Two officers with the Manacor Police are under investigation by the Guardia Civil for alleged document forgery. This relates to documentation for participation in courses in Merida (Extremadura) last month.
Ten officers from Manacor attended the courses between March 9 and 13; these were courses to do with traffic. Manacor Police have sent officers on similar courses in the past. There had never been an issue until now.
Once the courses had concluded and the officers had returned to Mallorca, the Guardia Civil received information indicating that two of the attendees may have falsified the documentation required to access the training. An investigation was launched. On Thursday, the officers were told that they were formally under investigation and will be called to appear in court in the coming days.
The investigation is seeking to determine whether the qualifications obtained in these courses could have entitled officers to additional payments or financial benefits. This would explain the alleged interest in altering certain documents.
Manacor Town Hall is meanwhile considering whether it should open an internal investigation.
