A 46-year-old motorcyclist lost his life on Sunday morning when his bike was involved in an accident on the MA-11 between Soller and the port. No other vehicle was involved.

The accident occurred around 3.30am. A mobile phone alarm reported an accident and a minute later the emergency services received a call from a driver who had seen the motorcyclist lying on the ground.

Paramedics who went to the scene could only confirm his death.

It is believed that the bike collided with a pole for the tram that runs between Soller and the port.

The motorcyclist has been identified as Samuel, who held the concession to operate the canteen at Soller's municipal market. Biel Barceló, the councillor responsible for markets, said on Sunday that he had taken on the concession last year, had proved to be popular with market traders and had revitalised the canteen.
