A night-time operation by Mallorca fire fighters ended happily in Mortitx after they found a mother and her two children aged 6 and 7 in good health; they had gone missing during a hike to the Cova de ses Bruixes, a route considered to be of high difficulty that runs through the mountains for around ten kilometres.
The operation was launched at around 9.00 pm when the woman’s husband alerted the emergency services (112) that his wife had not returned from the route with the children. Firefighters were deployed across the Mortitx area, in Pollensa.
The Mountain Rescue Teams (GRM) from Inca and Soller searched throughout the night until, at around six o’clock in the morning, they were able to locate them in good health and accompanied them to a safe area. With this operation on Saturday morning, this brings the total to three rescues carried out by the fire service in the last 24 hours at different locations across the island of Mallorca.
The first took place on Friday afternoon, involving a 47-year-old woman who suffered a fall on the Camí de ses Fontanelles in Valldemossa. The Sa Milana helicopter was deployed and the hiker was taken to Son Espases.
Finally, this morning, following the rescue of the mother and her children, firefighters attended to a man who had fallen during the night in the Frontó de sa Mola area, in Escorca. The man was also rescued by air. In fact, this is the 100th rescue carried out by the ‘Sa Milana’ helicopter of the Mallorca fire brigade; a figure that highlights the importance of their work.
