Emergency services responded to a fire at a welding workshop in the Amanecer neighbourhood of Palma. The incident, first reported around 3 pm on Wednesday, prompted a rapid deployment of the city’s Bombers de Palma and Local Police, alongside specialised units including the Unitat d'Intervenció Immediata (UII) and UMOT.

Authorities said the main challenge has been the combustion of flammable materials linked to welding processes inside the workshop. Several small explosions were reported, keeping nearby residents on edge until firefighters were able to contain the fire.

Aerial ladder platforms, engine pumps, and senior officers from Parc Central Magdalena Rigo were deployed to manage the scene. Teams have focused on isolating hazardous materials and cooling the affected areas to prevent further blasts. Many residents from surrounding buildings gathered outside as crews worked to bring the fire under control.

“Fire and explosions on my street. So frightening,” said one local, who shared images of the blaze on social media, capturing the intensity of the incident.

Despite the severity of the fire and repeated explosions, initial reports confirm no injuries. The workshop does not contain residential spaces above, which contributed to the lack of casualties. Authorities have, however, expressed concern for a pet dog reportedly seen inside during the blaze.
