The Calvia council have launched a campaign to oust the chickens from Magalluf in the interest of public safety. The good humour of some local residents has cracked in recent months after a massive growth in Magalluf´s feathered population. It is believed that their anger bowled over and they contacted the council to take action.
For many years a large population of chickens have been living at one of the major entrances to the popular holiday resort.
Council officials, operating at night, have been attempting to clear the area of chickens or at least reduce the size of the population. But some local residents have been giving them a roasting on social media saying that they should be left alone.
The council says that they are a risk to public safety especially traffic. One egg-stastic local resident said that it was better late than never!
One local business owner said: "the council are taking action against the hens but hen nights are more than welcome"!
