Major delays on Andratx motorway as bridge maintenance and heavy rain cause chaos

The maintenance work at Costa d’en Blanes will continue on Sunday from 7am to 3pm

Significant traffic delays are being reported on the Andratx motorway this morning in the southbound direction. Authorities have implemented a traffic management system to facilitate maintenance work on a bridge located at Costa d’en Blanes. The work will also continue on Sunday from 7am to 3pm, necessitating partial road closures.

According to footage from the Dirección General de Tráfico cameras and reports from drivers, vehicles are temporarily diverted off the motorway via the Portals Nous exit. Motorists then rejoin the main carriageway a short distance ahead. This traffic arrangement is causing lengthy queues and slow-moving conditions throughout much of the morning period.

The structure under maintenance is a bridge spanning Costa d’en Blanes that experienced prior debris falls several months ago. Current efforts focus on thorough inspection and upkeep of the infrastructure to ensure safety and stability.

Traffic restrictions involve a full closure of a section of the motorway, with detours directing vehicles through Portals Nous. Added to these measures, persistent heavy rainfall throughout the day is further hampering traffic flow, worsening congestion at this critical point.

Drivers affected describe the situation as challenging, with some eyewitnesses stating that "they are completely stopped and that the traffic jam may extend almost as far as the Genova Tunnel," as reported from within the queue of vehicles.
