Blue zone parking now effective in Consell with 30-minute limit

Parking remains free but is capped in the designated blue zone - the penalty for parking violations is 100 euros

On March 1st, Consell town council introduced a new blue zone parking system in its central area, specifically along Vila de Sureda and carrer Major near Plaza Major and Plaza de son Bernadet. These streets, home to public services, a bank, cafes, and various shops, now allow parking free of charge for a maximum of 30 minutes. Drivers must display the arrival time clearly on their dashboard.

The initiative aims to increase turnover of parked vehicles in this busy area, where limited spaces are normally occupied throughout the day. It is designed to make it easier for visitors to find short-term parking while conducting errands or shopping nearby.

To enforce the regulation, the Ajuntament de Consell approved a new ordinance published in the BOIB, pending upload to the official municipal website. Under the new rules, parking remains free but is capped at 30 minutes in the designated blue zone. Failure to mark the arrival time, falsifying it, or exceeding the limit constitute infractions.

Moreover, since November 2024, two large free park-and-ride facilities have been available close to the centre, accessible via Jafuda Cresques and Gastó de Montcada streets. These were established following the beautification of central streets, which resulted in the removal of some parking spots.

The penalty for parking violations is 100 euros, with reductions possible for prompt payment. Joan Guasp, head of the local police, emphasised that "the aim is not to raise revenue but to facilitate mobility and enable people to park in the town centre while carrying out business."
