A nine-metre sailboat, the Valent Segundo, sank on Thursday morning off the coast of Palmanova.
The crew of a boat from the Maritime Safety Agency attempted to refloat it after the alarm was raised that it was sinking shortly before 9am. Their efforts proved to be unsuccessful, and the sailboat had sunk by 11am.
It would seem that it had been abandoned. Attempts were made to contact the owner, but there was no response. There was no one on board.
