The Guardia Civil's Judicial Police are investigating the death of a man discovered deceased inside a construction site hut at a sawmill in Selva. Authorities believe the victim was a former employee who occasionally stayed overnight in the small structure.
The incident came to light at 10:20 am on Tuesday when the COS (Operational Centre) of the Comandancia received a report about a body found in Selva. Local police were already at the scene upon the arrival of the Guardia Civil officers.
According to a statement given by judicial sources, the sawmill manager explained that that morning he had checked a small container on the sawmill premises where the ex-worker usually slept. He noticed a strong odour when attempting to open one of the container's small windows, which prompted concerns something was amiss.
Inside the hut, which contained a large amount of accumulated rubbish, the man's body was found slumped over a chair. "The container was sealed off while investigators examined the scene to determine the circumstances surrounding the death," authorities confirmed. The victim's identity has not been released.
An autopsy is expected to take place today. Initially, there were no visible signs of violence on the body. Statements from factory representatives indicate the deceased occasionally spent the night in the confined space of the container. The exact timing of death remains undetermined.
