Béns d’Avall, one of Mallorca’s most significant culinary landmarks, has announced via social media the closure of its current operation as of March 1st. With a history spanning more than five decades, the Michelin-starred restaurant marks the end of an important chapter in the island’s gastronomic evolution. However, its owners stress that this is not a final farewell but a strategic transformation aimed at future growth.
Established by the Vicens family and handed down through generations, Béns d’Avall has been synonymous with local produce, territorial cuisine, and culinary excellence. Set in a prime location en route from Soller to Deya, the restaurant has welcomed distinguished guests including Michelle Obama, Michael Douglas, Pierce Brosnan, and former King Juan Carlos I, among others.
Chef Benet Vicens and his wife, Catalina Mayol, explained the decision stems from a "strategic reflection focused on the project's evolution and adaptation to new forms of hospitality and culinary creativity." The forthcoming concept, expected to launch in March 2027, will preserve the established values and essence while adopting a contemporary outlook in both kitchen and service. Notably, the traditional tasting menu will be discontinued in favour of an à la carte offering.
The closure represents a significant moment within the Balearic gastronomic scene, as Béns d’Avall has played a key role in positioning Mallorca on the national and international fine dining map. Throughout its operation, the restaurant has earned numerous accolades and served as a meeting point for locals and visitors seeking a dining experience closely tied to the island’s landscape and produce.
In their statement, the team expressed gratitude for the support received over the years and promised to reveal additional details about the new phase in the months ahead. They stated, "We close one door to open another," emphasising that passion for cuisine and Mallorca will remain at the heart of the project.
This announcement comes amid wider sector changes in the Balearics, where several historic venues are undergoing renewal to meet new audiences and trends. The Vicens family aims to balance identity preservation with innovation, reinventing the gastronomic experience in this iconic location.
