The British Council, the UK’s international organisation for culture and education, in collaboration with the British government and eight British universities, has announced the GREAT Scholarships 2026-27 for Spanish students who wish to study a master’s degree in the United Kingdom.

The scholarships offer £10,000 (approximately €11,537) to help cover part of the cost of tuition fees for master’s degrees during the 2026-2027 academic year, according to the British institution. The Great Scholarships 2026 programme will award eight scholarships to Spanish students who have been previously accepted onto an academic programme taught by the host universities and who meet all the entry requirements for the chosen course, as specified by each institution.

The programme aims to train ‘GREAT Scholars’ capable of strengthening educational ties between Spain and the United Kingdom, promoting exchanges of knowledge and experiences between both countries. ‘These scholarships represent a unique opportunity for Spanish students to access world-class education at British universities. Our goal is to support Spanish talent and encourage academic exchange between both countries,’ says Carolina Jiménez, Head of Education at the British Council Spain.

The institutions involved are: Cardiff University, King’s Business School (King’s College London), Lancaster University, Teesside University, University of Bath, University of Glasgow, University of St Andrews and University of Surrey. The application deadlines for the 2026-27 call vary depending on the university. The first deadline is 8 April for the University of Bath and the last deadline is 31 May for Cardiff University and Lancaster University. In addition, the application process varies depending on the destination university.

Scholarships are available for a variety of master’s programmes at the eight participating universities. For more details on conditions, deadlines and the application process, interested parties can consult the official GREAT Scholarships website - British Council Spain, although applications must be made directly through the universities’ websites.
