A 75-year-old woman died on Wednesday afternoon following a head-on collision on the MA-1 near to the entrance of the Peguera Tunnel.
The accident happened around 5pm and involved a car and a van. Three other people sustained serious injuries.
Paramedics spent some time attempting to resuscitate the woman but were unsuccessful.
The injured people were taken to Son Espases Hospital and Clinica Juaneda in Palma.
The accident was in an area known to be something of a blackspot; there have been a number of serious crashes in recent years.
