A 25-year-old man was arrested on Saturday afternoon after stabbing his father and grandfather at their home in the Son Ferriol district of Palma.
Police were called around 1pm, neighbours having heard shouts for help. The man had stabbed his father and grandfather with a kitchen knife. The attack seemingly occurred for no obvious reason. There hadn't been an argument.
The father's injuries were not serious, but the grandfather - who was stabbed ten times - is in a serious condition at Son Espases Hospital. His injuries include one to the face; an eye was affected. He underwent surgery at the hospital.
The 25-year-old was taken to the hospital's psychiatric unit. He is being assessed to see if he had suffered some form of breakdown. He will appear in court once police receive reports.
