"Out of Mallorca": Hate graffiti targeting foreign homeowners in Mallorca

The mayor of Santanyi said "we condemn any act of vandalism against any person or community, regardless of nationality"

A villa owned by German nationals in Santanyi was vandalised with graffiti displaying a shocking hate message. The owner’s gardener sent a video of the graffiti to Jorge Pérez, the sole VOX councillor at Santany town hall, who publicly condemned the act as vandalism.

Jorge Pérez described the incident as an "intolerable attack, full of hate and with a clear element of collective targeting". He stressed that "these attacks are very serious" and are not "mere vandalism" but rather "an act of hate directed at a specific community that forms part of our municipality, working, investing and living in Santanyi for years," he stated.

Santanyi town hall noted that "no formal complaint has been registered with the local police by the property's owners regarding this incident." They encouraged residents "to report such attacks and to inform the local police if they have any information about possible suspects." Authorities highlighted that "it is important to file complaints at the police station so that investigations can proceed."

The mayor of Santanyi, María Pons, said "we condemn any act of vandalism against any person or community, regardless of nationality". She added this appears to be an isolated event, noting that "for many years the German community has lived in the municipality, and there has never been an attack against them, as they are well integrated and are active members of our society." Pons stated that "the German community is highly respected by the locals and there has never been social conflict between Germans and Mallorcans."

Pons also regretted that "such incidents are not always reported to the local police and that information sometimes reaches only the VOX spokesperson," emphasising that "the most effective way to address these matters is through the proper legal channels by filing official complaints with law enforcement."
