A middle-aged foreign cyclist has died after being hit twice by vehicles in Santa Maria on Friday morning. He had been staying at Playa de Palma and had come to the island to practise cycling. The cyclist’s nationality has not been disclosed as of yet.
The incident occurred on the Ma-3030 road, near kilometre 5.9. Initial reports suggest the tourist emerged from a junction when he was first struck by a Volkswagen Transporter, which threw him into the air and dragged him several metres. Shortly afterwards, a Peugeot Rifter passed the scene and was unable to avoid colliding with the man.
Officers from Santa Maria del Camí Local Police and the Civil Guard attended the scene and cordoned off the area. The Civil Guard is leading the investigation to determine the cause of the accident and any responsibilities. Several ambulances from SAMU 061 also attended, but medical teams were unable to save the man’s life.
