A 47-year-old Polish man died on Thursday after being tasered by National Police at his home in Coll d’en Rabassa (Palma).

Around 4.15am, the emergency services received a call about a man who was smashing up his home. A neighbour, who had heard the commotion, managed to get his three children - ages three to eleven - out of the house. The mother is understood to have been in Germany.

Officers tried to calm him down, but he continued to act in a violent and uncooperative manner. When he tried to attack the officers, he was tasered.

He lost consciousness and went into cardiac arrest. The police attempted resuscitation, but when paramedics arrived, they were unable to save him.

The Taser, equipped with video and audio, has been examined by the National Police's Homicide Squad, who are in charge of the investigation.
