According to the Consumer Spending Report 2026 prepared by Roams, a Spanish price comparison website, the average household spend in Spain is currently 21,938 euros per year to cover basic day-to-day requirements, regardless of whether the home is mortgaged or rented. In 2025 the average was 20,593 euros.

In the Balearics, the 2026 average is put at €33,385, some 50% higher than the national figure. In 2025 this was €29,527. In the space of a year, therefore, this cost-of-living measure has increased by 3,858 euros. A rise of just over 13% is twice as great a percentage increase as the national average.

The Roams report highlights those parts of Spain "where you can't save". Based on an average mortgage for a couple, the report estimates that 99.2% of net salaries are spent on essential expenses. If renting, this is 93.6%. Both are the highest in the country. The province of Spain that comes closest to the Balearics is Malaga, where the estimates are 89% with mortgages and 92% if renting.

The cheapest place in the country is Cáceres in Extremadura, where the average annual spending is 16,854 euros. Even here, as the report notes, there has been an increase of close to twenty per cent.

Other than mortgages or rental payments, Roams draw attention to energy prices. For the country as a whole, the report indicates annual expenditure of 690 euros for electricity and 522 euros for gas. Together these represent an increase of 133 euros. Gonzalo Blanco of Roams explains that while electricity has gone up, the price of gas has come down by up to 18%.
