The January rain and some snow have resulted in a dramatic increase in the levels of the two giant reservoirs in the Tramuntana Mountains. The combined capacity of Cúber and Gorg Blau, which primarily serve Palma, has gone from 42.1% on January 19 to 62.4%. This is over 15% greater than at the start of February 2025.
The larger of the two reservoirs, Gorg Blau, was at 68.5% on Monday; Cúber was 52.8%. The difference can be explained by the fact that Gorg Blau receives most inflows of water, while Cúber will have been used for supplies.
In January, accumulated rainfall in mountain areas exceeded 300 litres per square metre. This was almost twice as much as anywhere else. In Santanyi in the southeast there were 170 litres; in the northeast of the island 144.
More rain is forecast for this week, the recovery of the reservoir levels certainly for now easing anxieties about shortages in supply later this year.
