Irish no frills carrier, Ryanair, has asked its passengers not to wear jeans when flying with them. The Irish carrier took to TikTok for the announcement which has left some passengers signing the blues and others totally baffled!

The budget airline posted footage of their aircraft descending over what appears to be Corfu airport before their infamous celebratory tune plays out followed by an air hostess thanking passengers for flying with them. The text overtop the video reads ‘It’s 2026, let’s stop travelling in jeans’, with an extra plead in the caption.

The airline suggests that rigid denim is too restrictive for long periods in cramped seating, potentially impairing blood circulation and increasing the risk of deep vein thrombosis (DVT).

Reasons for avoiding jeans on flights include:

  1. Physical Discomfort: Cabin pressure can cause the body to swell, making tight denim uncomfortable.
  2. Health Risks: Restricted blood flow in tight jeans can lead to numbness, pain, or higher DVT risk.
  3. Practicality: Heavy denim can be inconvenient during security screenings.
  4. Better Alternatives: The airline recommends wearing comfortable, flexible clothing like leggings or tracksuits. While some reports suggests this is a "crackdown" or a "ban," it is framed as a recommendation for passenger comfort, rather than a strict dress code violation.

The bold statement has sparked debate online, with many demanding clarification of why jeans should be left behind. One TikTok user asked: “What is wrong with jeans please explain?”, to which Ryanair replied: “what’s right with them?”

The airline is known for its rather unusual promotional stunts but this one has left many in the dark and asking why?

Ryanair has hundreds of flights to Mallorca during the summer but it is unclear whether they will be jeanless!
