A year or so ago, the waiting time for an MOT (ITV) appointment in Mallorca could be around three months. The Council of Mallorca says this has now been reduced to a maximum of three days.
This improvement is particularly noticeable at the Calvia ITV station, which currently has the greatest availability. With four active inspection lanes and lower demand than elsewhere on the island, it is common to find an appointment for the next day.
At the Inca and Manacor stations, appointments are available from one day to the next. It was certainly the case that at Inca in December 2024 and January last year, it was impossible to get an appointment in less than three months' time.
The Palma II station has the longest waiting list, although typically never more than three days, and this is partly explained by the temporary closure of the Palma I station on the Son Castelló Industrial Estate due to roof repairs. The Council says this has not affected a dramatic reduction in waiting times in general.
The councillor for mobility, Fernando Rubio, attributes the remarkable turnaround to a series of measures that started in the summer of 2023. These included the extended opening of stations on Saturdays in June and September. The awarding of a new concession contract increased the annual inspection total from 402,000 to 502,000. In addition, the new ITV station in Calvia, inaugurated in 2025, can carry out some 9,000 inspections per month.
