Mallorca played a starring role in the first series of The Night Manager, and a Palma-based hotel chain has a leading role in the second which premiered at the start of the year on BBC1. Barcelona’s Torre Melina Gran Meliá (standing in for Medellin) plays a key role in the second episode.
In this case, the hotel owned by the Palma-based group, Melia Group, plays the part of a Colombian hotel when in fact it is in Barcelona. The hotel, where Jonathan Pine (Tom Hiddleston) stays, features extensively in the abduction scene.
Season 1 was filmed at many key spots in Mallorca including Pollensa, Palma and Deya. The impressive La Fortalesa, situated on the headland at Puerto Pollensa in the north of Mallorca, is unscrupulous arms dealer Richard Roper’s main residence. A place where he really liked to flaunt it! It originally was a fortress too, but today it is a private residence.
