A 44-year-old German man, arrested in Binissalem on Wednesday, is due to be extradited to Germany, accused of having operated a porn site scam that netted tens of thousands of euros.
He and others launched a website to which access was free but which supposedly had other material for which registration and payment were required. There was no other material.
The website functioned from 2016 to 2021. Victims of the fraud from all over the world reported the scam; their numbers were put at around one million. It was located in Germany, where the police launched an investigation and eventually arrested and charged individuals with the exception of one person.
A European arrest warrant was issued. The National Police in Spain learned that he might be living in Mallorca. Investigations established that he was - in Binissalem.
Following his arrest, he was taken to the courthouse in Inca on Thursday and appeared before Spain's Audiencia Nacional national court via videoconference.
