The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) will activate a yellow warning for cold weather and sub-zero temperatures in Mallorca at midnight tonight. According to information from Aemet the warning will remain in force until 7:59 a.m. on Wednesday due to temperatures that could reach two or three degrees below zero in different parts of the island.

Also at midnight, the orange warning for strong winds and coastal phenomena will remain in force for Menorca. Winds of 60 to 70 km/h (force 8) from the north and waves of 4 to 5 metres are expected, with a maximum wave height of 8 to 9 metres. The night of the Three Kings, Monday, has left Mallorca with an unusual winter landscape. During the early hours of the morning, the Serra de Tramuntana mountains recorded the first snowfall of the year, especially at the highest altitudes, covering the peaks in white.

Although the snowfall was not as heavy as that recorded on the afternoon of 5 January, when snow began to fall above 800 metres, the image of the mountains tinged with white has once again caught the attention of mountain and weather enthusiasts. The combination of very low temperatures and north wind has made the cold feel intense in Mallorca since Monday afternoon.

In many parts of the island, thermometers recorded temperatures below 5°C, and the wind chill factor has been even lower in areas exposed to the wind. In the highest areas of the Serra de Tramuntana, snow still remains on the peaks, while at medium and low altitudes the white blanket has already melted. Areas such as Son Torrella showed how the snow turned the landscape white, offering a natural spectacle for these first days of the year.
