The body of a man in an advanced state of decomposition was found on Wednesday afternoon on a plot of land near to the Son Banya shanty town in Palma.
A member of the public came across the body around 3.30pm and called the National Police, whose homicide squad are investigating the circumstances.
The body was surrounded by rubbish in a ruined building and would appear to have been there for a long time. No identification was found, but it could be a man who was known to go to Son Banya and had been reported missing some time ago.
An autopsy will help determine the exact cause of death. As has been the case on previous occasions in the Son Banya area, the body could be that of a drug addict who frequented the shanty town.
