Ex-partner denies involvement in Mallorca car and apartments fire

A restraining order was issued last Friday

The car park and a number of cars were badly affected

| Sant Llorenç |

The ex-partner of the woman whose car caught fire and caused the evacuation of residents from apartments in Sa Coma (Sant Llorenç) on Saturday has told his lawyer he was not present when the fire started. He insists that he had nothing to do with the fire or with the graffiti found on the vehicle which insulted the owner.

Suspicion has fallen on him because of a restraining order and alleged abuse of both the woman and her son. The restraining order was issued last Friday.

The car has been removed from the underground car park. Forensics officers are continuing their examinations of the vehicle and of the scene of the fire. They are seeking to establish if the fire was deliberate or accidental; the car in question was a Toyota C-HR Hybrid.

One of the residents says: "I think we're going to be in for a surprise." He doesn't mean this in a positive sense, referring to what he believes the investigations will reveal.

Some residents have been able to return to their apartments; those that were furthest from the fire. Water and electricity have yet to be restored to all apartments. "The basement clean-up is under way, and we are continuing to work on the issue of supplies," says the Sant Llorenç councillor for the police, Emilia Díaz.
