Early morning fire and smoke in the neighbourhood of La Vileta, Palma. Palma Local Police and firefighters responded at around 3:15 a.m. on Wednesday, Christmas Eve, to a violent fire that broke out in a row of containers located on Carrer Massanella.
A patrol from the UNOC (Night Unit) was called by witnesses to the flames and, upon arriving at the scene, found a serious fire that was spreading rapidly and had already reached a vehicle parked next to the rubbish bins.
Using the firefighting equipment carried by the Local Police in their vehicles, the officers began to extinguish the flames, although the fire was extremely fierce. In fact, when it reached a small trail of petrol from the vehicles, it continued to spread and a second car began to burn.
‘Our priority was to secure the area and coordinate the arrival of members from the Palma Fire Brigade, who extinguished the fire,’ said the municipal police via their Instagram account. In total, the fire resulted in four containers being burned and two vehicles being completely charred, as well as extensive damage to three other nearby cars.
The fire caused extensive material damage but, fortunately, did not affect anyone or cause any other dangerous situations, thanks to the rapid response of the emergency services. The investigation into the cause of the fire will determine whether it was a deliberate act.
