The Government has opened the deadline for interested companies to submit bids for the first contracts of the future railway line linking Palma and Llucmajor. The tender has a budget of nearly six million euros and forms part of the “Illes en Transformació” investment plan promoted by the regional administration.

Serveis Ferroviaris de Mallorca (SFM) is tendering the technical assistance services for the drafting of the outline and detailed construction projects for the future line, as well as the overall coordination of the contracts. The deadline for submitting bids is 11 February 2026. The tender for technical assistance has been launched in two lots with a base budget of €5.9 million (excluding VAT).

The lot with the highest budget (€4.1 million) covers technical assistance for drafting the outline project and the detailed construction projects for the works along two sections: Conservatorio–s’Arenal and s’Arenal–Llucmajor. The second lot (€1.8 million) concerns the overall coordination of the projects and actions required to deliver the investments.

At the same time, the Government has continued to make progress through other stages of the Palma–Llucmajor line’s approval process and, at the beginning of December, initiated the strategic environmental assessment procedure, a prerequisite for the final approval of the project’s informative study.

The Government has stated that “with the tendering of these contracts and the environmental processing, the Government is maintaining the established roadmap and the initial forecasts for this year. This procedure concerns the section from Palma to Llucmajor.”

This line will connect Palma with Llucmajor and the airport, running through various neighbourhoods of Palma, residential areas and strategic locations such as Son Llàtzer Hospital, s’Arenal and the future Palma exhibition centre.

The line is expected to carry 8.5 million passengers per year. “With the launch of this expansion of the rail network, journey times of 30 minutes from Palma to Llucmajor, 12 minutes from Palma to the airport and 18 minutes from Llucmajor to the airport are anticipated. Connections to Son Llàtzer Hospital will take six minutes from Palma and 23 minutes from Llucmajor,” the Government announced.
