Flight touches down in Mallorca, passengers’ luggage (and Christmas presents!) get left behind

Passengers estimated that more than 100 suitcases did not reach Palma

More than 100 passengers on a Vueling flight from Granada to Palma de Mallorca were left without their luggage on Sunday after their bags failed to arrive at the destination airport. Travellers on flight VY3930 discovered the problem when they reached the baggage reclaim area at Palma airport, only to find the carousel empty.

Airport staff told passengers that their suitcases and personal belongings had been left behind in Granada. They were advised to file a claim in order to recover their luggage, either by scanning a QR code or by visiting the airline’s customer service desk. Those affected were informed that their bags could take up to three or four days to be delivered.

Many passengers expressed frustration and anger, particularly as a number of them were travelling to the island to spend the Christmas period with family. Some said they were concerned about missing Christmas presents and essential items, while others complained about the lack of clear information from the airline.

Several travellers also pointed out that they had paid extra to check in additional luggage. The flight had already been delayed slightly due to weather conditions, and passengers estimated that more than 100 suitcases did not reach Palma.

Vueling said the incident was caused by operational problems at Granada airport. The airline said the luggage was placed on the next available flight operating the same route, which departed later on Sunday evening, and stressed that this procedure is intended to minimise disruption and return passengers’ belongings as quickly as possible.
