Avda. Pere Mas i Reus in Puerto Alcudia has attracted various nicknames over the years. The actual name is that of the engineer and businessman who was a partner in the tourist/residential development prior to the Civil War which included some reclamation of the Albufera wetland and the creation of a rudimentary golf course.

The nicknames were to come following the major development from the sixties. 'Dollar Street' was one. Once upon a time, the avenue was awash with cash. 'The Greasy Mile' was to be a less complimentary name for this street with bars, restaurants and shops. Alcudia's 'Strip' is a name one nowadays encounters on the likes of Tripadvisor.

The decline of the Mile can be attributed to two main factors - a lack of investment and modernisation and the rise of the all-inclusive. When the giant Bellevue complex went mostly all-inclusive around twenty years ago, the omens were not good.

Over the years there has been talk of a revitalisation. In 2023, Alcudia Town Hall and the Council of Mallorca unveiled a plan for a boulevard. A project of the previous administrations, this was put on hold. At the start of 2026, work will finally commence on comprehensive renovation. It will be a more ambitious scheme. Investment of six million euros, five million of which will come from the town hall, is at least three times as much as the 2023 plan.

The boulevard will run from the main Carretera Arta coast road to the end of the avenue by the Siesta apartments. All the pipework - sewage, mains water, stormwater drainage - is to be renewed. Pavements will be wider, the road will be narrower; the road will be more pedestrian-friendly. Parking is to be reserved for one side, that nearest to the big lake - Esperanza as everyone used to know it until Estany dels Ponts was deemed to be the name. There will be a bike lane, landscaping, and new street lighting (LED).

Rafel Ferrer, Alcudia's councillor for public works, explains that work on the first phase will start after the Christmas/New Year holidays and finish in April or May. This phase will be for the section from the bridge to the Siesta apartments. The second phase, the bridge to the Ctra. Arta will follow later next year, when further work on the first phase will presumably be required. Both phases are expected to take six to seven months to complete.
