The historic Bingo Balear building next to Palma's Olivar Market has finally been sold. The new owner is a Mallorcan whose identity has not yet been revealed. The sale was apparently completed for over two million euros; a price of three million had previously been mentioned.
The building dates from 1909. It has been closed for more than ten years. A plan to convert it into a casino definitively came to an end three years ago when the Balearic High Court ruled against it.
At the end of 2024, an ambitious project to renovate the building was announced. Swedish investors were going to refurbish the 2,000-square-metre space and create a spa, thalassotherapy centre, gym, and holistic treatment facilities.
The owner, Eusebio Cano, who runs the Bingo Rosales on C. Manacor, said: "They have very clear ideas and are going to make a seven-figure investment." A Swedish company was going to manage the spa, while Cano continued to own the premises. The plan clearly fell through.
As well as a bingo hall, the building over the years housed a theatre and a cinema, staged zarzuela productions and variety shows and even circuses.
