Travel giant, TUI, is one of the companies which is bidding for the contract for the new Palma water taxi service which will link key areas of the city including Portixol, home to some of Palma´s finest restaurants and night-spots. A local shipping company is the other bidder.

The Palma Port Authority hopes that the new maritime service will ease traffic conjestion along the Paseo Maritimo which has recently undergone a massive up-grade costing many millions of euros.

Sources consulted by Bulletin Online said that the fact that TUI was bidding for the contract showed that they believe that the new service had many benefits for the tourist industry.

The main stops will be located at Maritime Station No. 6 on the West Quay, Poniente Quay, Golondrinas Quay, Portitxol and the royal steps of Lonja Quay. This water bus service will operate every day from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., extending its hours until midnight on weekends.

The project will have at least three routes and an initial fleet of at least four low-emission vessels, each with a capacity for 100 passengers.

The TUI Group is the world´s largest travel company with extensive interests across the globe. It purchased British travel giant Thomson Holidays.
