A seven-year-old girl died on Sunday morning after being run over by a car in Coll d'en Rabassa (Palma).
The accident occurred on C. Can Caimari. The girl was with her family when a car mounted the pavement. The driver lost control. The car hit the girl and others; her mother and grandmother were injured.
Paramedics who rushed to the scene were unable to do anything to save the girl's life. The driver, a man in his fifties, was unharmed. He tested negative for alcohol.
Police are trying to ascertain why the car mounted the pavement and believe that he had suffered some form of indisposition that caused him to faint. He was taken to Son Llàtzer Hospital for assessment.
Residents say the accident was at a dangerous spot where drivers are prone to speed and without regard for people crossing to get to the Collerense football ground. This was where the family was going.
