It has been a debate for decades - where is Mallorca's geographical centre? Costitx, Sant Joan, Sencelles, Sineu; cases have been made for each, but the smart money has long been on Lloret de Vistalegre.

In Lloret's Sa Comuna (Common), there is a stone with a sign stating that this spot is the centre of Mallorca. It was put there eleven years ago. There are other signs to direct visitors to Mallorca's centre.

Of greater vintage is the Pou de Llorac, a public well in the Sa Comuna forest. This bears a Latin inscription: 'Pou de Llorac Hic Maioricae Medium'. The well is at Mallorca's centre.

Lloret's claim has generally been accepted, and reports from Spain's National Centre for Geographic Information and the University of the Balearic Islands geography department would appear to have settled the debate beyond doubt.

The exact coordinates of Mallorca's geographical centre have been established: X 496.394-Y 4385.084. And these conform with Sa Comuna's stone.
