The Prosecutor's Office is seeking a €2,700 fine for a truck driver involved in an accident in Palma that resulted in the death of a cyclist.
The accident occurred shortly after 11am on February 13, 2023 at the junction of the Paseo Marítimo and Avda. Argentina. The lights were changing from amber to red. A 60-year-old cyclist was crossing the road in the bike lane when he was hit by the truck.
The cyclist suffered severe head injuries and died at Son Espases Hospital some two weeks later on March 1. His only relative was paid compensation by the insurance company.
The driver, charged with manslaughter due to negligence, also faces a twelve-month ban.
The case will be heard shortly at the courts in Palma.
