Last Thursday, Alcudia Police received a report of a body at the abandoned Es Fogueró Palace.
The autopsy has confirmed that the deceased, a 65-year-old Hungarian, fell several metres. The Guardia Civil are in charge of the investigation, but the indications are that it was an accidental death.
Closed since 1992, this one-time 'Las Vegas' style nightclub has become a place for the homeless. Despite efforts to fence it off, people still find their way in. The structure is unsafe.
This is not the first time that there has been a body. On the night of June 17, 2010, there was a call to the 112 emergency line to say that Agustín González, aka 'El Gallego' (The Galician), had fallen down steps.
The condition of Es Fogueró meant that an accidental fall was perfectly plausible. Railings were missing from sections of the steps. There was certainly no electrical light. That had long been cut off. Squatters had to use candles and lighters. Agustín was found in a pool of blood. He died shortly afterwards.
There was a murder investigation. An Ecuadorian brother and sister Hugo Wilson, 51, and Ladia Casquete, 54, were arrested after it had been established that Agustín had been hit on the head with a blunt instrument, a hammer. They were ultimately released; there was insufficient evidence.
In November 2024, an 18-year-old man was rushed to Son Espases Hospital after falling from the roof. He survived falling some twenty metres.
Es Fogueró opened in 1989. Three years later the doors closed. Julio Iglesias famously performed there in August 1989, but the ambitions for the club failed to materialise.
