Beachgoers in Palmanova were met with an unusual sight on Sunday as a sailing yacht lay stranded in the shallow waters just metres from Son Maties beach. Many walkers stopped to take a closer look, even though similar incidents have occurred during bouts of rough seas.
The craft, a nine-metre yacht flying the Spanish flag, appears to have drifted into the shallows over the weekend. No injuries have been reported, and authorities say the situation poses no immediate risk to the public.
Plans are now being made to remove the yacht from its precarious position. It is expected to be towed away in the coming days and transported to a nautical services company for assessment and repair.
