Issues with non-delivery of Palma Town Hall traffic fines' notifications go back to at least October 2022, which was when thousands of letters, including bills and notifications of fines, were found dumped in a torrent and by the Son Pardo hippodrome.
Despite action taken against contractors, problems still persist. As one resident explains, the notification of a fine he had incurred didn't arrive until the fourth attempt to deliver it. With surcharges, the fine had gone up from €300 to €900.
He had received no prior notification of the fines. "They appear as delivered, or so they tell us, but I've only had the fourth notification. They're taking us for fools. It's negligence on the part of the administration, and we taxpayers end up paying for it."
Given coverage his insurance company can offer, he is considering taking the matter to the courts. "If there are options, we’ll take legal action." He adds that his is not an isolated case and observes "it is a problem that has been going on for years in Palma".
