The Balearics minister for mobility, José Luis Mateo, announced on Thursday that the Palma Airport Aerotib buses will operate all-year round. The winter Aerotib service will start on Saturday.

Mateo said this will be the first time there has been a regular service for the four Aerotib routes during the off-season and on every day of the week. It will provide improved transport connections between major residential areas of Mallorca and the airport, as has been called for by the public.

There will be schedule and route modifications to connect the airport with the Calvia, Inca, Manacor, Sa Pobla, Alcudia, Llucmajor and Campos areas via the lines A11, A33, A43, and A51.

Each will offer between 26 and 38 daily journeys (to and from the airport) with an average frequency of between sixty and 75 minutes, depending on the route. The first buses will depart between 4.15 and 4.40am for the airport, and the last ones between 10.30 and 11.40pm from the airport.

The manager of the Mallorca Transport Consortium, Luisa Serra, explained that the Aerotib service had not operated during the off-season for the past five years and that between 2017 to 2019 the maximum number of journeys per day had been eight.

Mateo added that the changes have been made possible by amendments to the bus operators' concessions and that they reflect "the government's commitment to enhancing public transport with residents in mind".
