The Guardia Civil report having given a breath test to a coach driver which showed that he was five times over the permitted alcohol limit.

In the early hours of Saturday, October 18, traffic police from Manacor were conducting routine alcohol checks on drivers on the outskirts of Petra. The coach was pulled over. It was full of people who were returning from a wedding.

Officers noted that the driver was showing clear signs of being under the influence. The breath test proved that he was.

The coach was immobilised - there is no report as to what happened to the passengers - and an investigation was initiated. The driver could face a ban of up to four years and a prison sentence of between three and six months.

The driver, it has since been revealed, used to work as a bus driver in Mallorca. He ceased to because on various occasions the 'alcolock' system, which can detect alcohol, meant buses wouldn't start. He is no longer employed by the coach company for which he was driving on October 18.
