On Friday, the jury trial will begin in Palma of the woman accused of murdering her baby in Porto Cristo in November 2023.

The Prosecutor's Office states that at around 5.30pm on November 3, Yolanda M. L., who was pregnant with a female foetus of about 26 or 27 weeks, went into labour inside a car. Her brother-in-law, Gustavo P. G., was driving. After giving birth to the baby, and both knowing that she was alive, they decided to leave her in a rubbish container, knowing that they could end her life.

The mother handed the baby to the man, and he threw the infant into the container on C. Aterratge. After this, they left the scene. Days later, three people were arrested by the National Police.

The newborn suffered a multifactorial cardiorespiratory arrest due to a lack of medical assistance during childbirth, as well as moderate perimortal head trauma from a fall to the ground after being expelled from the mother's womb or from the impact with the container.

The third person, the woman's sister, was present at the time of the events. She was aware of the critical situation her niece was in and did nothing; nor did she notify anyone to help the baby.

The Prosecutor's Office is seeking life sentences with the possibility of parole for the baby's mother and uncle; both are accused of murder. For the third defendant, the demand is a fine of 5,400 euros for failure to provide assistance.
